Places to visit in Devon with children
Planning fun days out with your children can be a challenge, even for the most prepared parents! Whether you’re visiting for the day or staying longer in one of the many holiday parks in Devon, sometimes we all need a bit of inspiration.
Devon is home to a wide range of children-friendly activities, ranging from calming woodland trails right up to adrenaline pumping pursuits meaning there is something there for every child.
Miniature Pony Centre
Based in Moretonhampstead, The Miniature Pony sanctuary is home to miniature ponies, little donkeys and a number of other adorable animals making it perfect for any animal-loving children. Not only are you able to feed, pet and groom the animals, there are also a number of onsite play areas to help children burn off any extra energy with trampolines, zip wires and mini tractors. This is also a great option for wet weather days as in wet weather the animals are kept in stables, and some of the play areas are indoors.
Go Ape Haldon
If you have left your holiday park in search of some adrenaline fun then Go Ape is great for all ages – not just for kids, set in over 3000 acres of woodland this is perfect for people who love outdoors and want some fresh air. For children and adults over 1m tall there is the tree top adventure and the tree top challenge, for those under 1m there is a children’s play area and plenty of forest trails as well as a beginner cycling route.
Waie 2 Play
A purpose built facility at The Waie Inn in Crediton, there is a bright, multi level play area incorporating climbing frames, slides, cannons, ball pits and a rope bridge suitable for over 1 year olds. For the smaller children there is a under 5 year olds’ section to keep them entertained. There is also a coffee shop where adults can enjoy a wide range of cakes, snacks and drinks whilst keeping an eye on their children. Waie 2 play is open everyday and great for rainy days, although booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
Chagford Swimming Pool
For fun sunny summer days, if you want a change from your own holiday park pool facilities, just outside the town centre of Chagford is Chagford Swimming Pool, the largest open-air, fresh water pool in the Southwest. This river-fed pool is UV treated and heated with pumps and solar panels which also powers the hot showers, lighting and Tea Shed. Apart from the main pool there is a toddler pool for small children which is equipped with toy boats, watering cans and toy ducks. With plenty of grassy areas and a decking there is lots of space for adults to supervise their children. You are welcome to bring picnics, but there is the opportunity to buy refreshments and snacks from the Tea Shed.
In Devon there are plenty of places to explore and keep your children entertained, if you’re staying in a holiday park there will be lots of onsite activities and facilities for your children. However if you wish to venture off the complexes there are also plenty of child-friendly places around Devon to visit.
