How to Stay Fit While Travelling

We are only too lucky to live in a world that is ripe for exploring. People have travelled the world for centuries, discovering new pastures as they went, and there are still many countries that remain relatively undeveloped and undiscovered. Whether you plan to travel to the mysterious Far East or magical Africa, or perhaps take a road trip in the USA, you will find many contrasts in culture. Even on our tiny home island there is plenty of diversity to explore, and there is always something new waiting around the corner.

One of the things we like to do when travelling is try out the local food and drink; this may mean suspending our usual health and fitness routine for a while, as we indulge and enjoy, However, it is still important that you do all you can to stay fit while travelling, as not to do so can mean you have a harder job getting back to fitness when you return home. Also, you might be required to show some stamina in more extreme and exotic places, so you need to be able to keep up the pace when out in the wilds.

Outdoor Exercising

So, what can you do that will help you keep fit when travelling? Well, the first thing we should say is that when it comes to food and drink, by all means indulge – but don’t over-indulge! In fact, some of the world’s cuisine is a great deal healthier than our own, so you may be eating healthy meals on your travels. The second thing we would advise is that you exercise regularly; not too much as that will tire you, but enough to keep your muscles toned and your overall fitness high. You never know when you might need to tackle some arduous mountain track, for instance, so it is worth your while keeping your fitness levels up.

One thing you will find is that outdoor gym equipment is becoming very popular in public parks across the world; you will usually find the likes of a pullup bar that can be used for many exercises, so take advantage of free outdoor equipment wherever you find it. It’s also a great way of meeting people, as there will be others who are like-minded and looking to keep fit. Check out in advance where the public equipment is; you will often find it is marked on maps or available on apps.

Take Time to Relax

It is important that you take the time to relax when on your travels, so if you want to explore a city or town, why not walk or even hire a bike? Each is surprisingly relaxing and also offers a level of exercise, so it’s worth taking the time to ride a bike – especially in some of the busier cities. Whatever you do, wherever you are going, make sure you enjoy yourself, stay safe, and keep up enough exercise to make sure you are fit for the journey!
